End of the Year

Only 2 and 1/2 days to go before the end of the school year! Though this might seem to be a strange time to start a blog, my plan is to gather materials and share things throughout the summer. So in reality, the perfect time to start a blog is when a teacher is vacationing over the summer!

I want to document some goals I have for this space:
First, I hope to start to create and share some of my own teacher materials. I hope to start selling on teachers pay teachers, and have a creative outlet for myself and collaborate with other teachers.

I also hope that my successes and failures as a teacher can be shared and learned from. I know I owe much of who I am and what I do as a teacher to the blogging world, and I hope to contribute to that in some small way.

I also hope that as I grow and improve as a teacher myself, looking back on where I have come from with be helpful and encouraging. A few weeks ago I found my journal from my culminating project as a grad student. To see that I struggled with some of the same issues back 2 years ago was encouraging and a little cathartic. I seem to only remember that class as wonderful, yet there I am writing in my journal about the same frustrations I have about my classroom. So it shows me that I will too remember this year with rose colored glasses. But it also shows me that my classroom management has room to improve because students blurting out still drives me crazy!

Changing and improving are both at the heart of every teacher. We live to see these things in our students, and can only hope to see these things in ourselves.

By this time next week, I will know for sure what grade and room I will be teaching in next year and can begin the planning process. I hope to document how I have come to go about that process here, stay tuned!
